About the exhibition

Metanoia

Metanoia

Metanoia means conversion, but not only that; it implies "a change of knowledge." It is allowing oneself to be convinced, acquiring a new heart and a new mind, becoming more human, more like Jesus, who chose our humanity as a path of salvation.

Paul presents us with the challenge of allowing ourselves to be moved by the face of the One who calms us with His imperturbable presence in the midst of the storm, who looks at us even with His eyes closed, who presents Himself as a self-portrait of a wounded and disfigured humanity to give us the opportunity to look at ourselves and allow ourselves to be healed by His wounds.

Each of these paintings invites us to look at it with eyes free of prejudice. They are a call to look at ourselves and allow ourselves to be looked at. Human, fully human. They take us to the Lenten desert, together with Jesus, to be among the wild beasts, allowing ourselves to be served by the angels. They confront us with our weaknesses, to make us capable of being the image and likeness of a God who is moved by our hunger. The path to saving our society will not be that of beasts, nor that of angels, but that of men and women with wings and roots.

Medina brings us face to face with faces and hearts, giving us the opportunity to look into our own hearts, listening to what they tell us.

Those of us who have followed Paulo Medina's career have witnessed his courageous creativity, which, like water, never ceases to seek new paths in the face of each new obstacle. Also like water, his work never ceases to transform everything it touches, leaving life and color. His work has broken down the barriers of nations, but also of platforms and spaces. He has not been afraid to reach out into the virtual world and overcome the barriers that current reality has imposed on us.

This exhibition comes to us like a beautiful sunset that surprises us, burdened with tiredness and boredom at the end of the day. As a society, we have faced very difficult times; let us not be afraid to make room for beauty in our lives.
